Million-Dollar Mermaids

Presidents' Day weekend is so gnarly. We're celebrating George Washington's birthday like we do every year: harassing yacht brokers via telephone and inundating their electronic inboxes until they agree to take us on deep-sea test spin aboard one of the megayachts for sale at the Miami International Boat Show.

Each year, thousands of seafaring exhibitors take over the Miami Beach Convention Center, Sea Isle Marina & Yachting Center, and Bayside Marketplace for five days of all things watercraft.

Joining the more than 166 dozen pitchmen, yacht brokers, and hired help are folks with entirely too much disposable income, ready to drop thousands, and sometimes millions, of dollars on fiberglass holes in the water. Recession schmecession.
