Folk Secrets Revealed

In a world full of throwaway pop divas and prepackaged emotional messages, heartfelt and talented singer-songwriters are few and far between. But leave it to the good people of Books & Books (265 Aragon Ave., Coral Gables) to find one of the music world’s sincerest up-and-comers, just for you thoughtful folk. Born and bred in rural Kansas, Shelly Fraley left home to study music and graphic design at California’s Southwestern College but soon left all of that to move to Nashville and follow her dream. With her gritty vocals and soft delivery, she’s made a name for herself on the folk-singer scene since hitting the ground running with her debut album, 2010’s Into the Sun. Her second album, Hush, released earlier this year, features ten originals inspired by fan-submitted secrets. She’s set to bare those secrets and her musical soul on the Books & Books stage this Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free, so there’s no reason not to pick up a CD or a few good reads while you’re in the store.
