No matter the weather, Wynwood constantly attracts a steady stream of people looking for the perfect photo op. Meanwhile, the busy tourist season brings with it plenty of traffic, parties, and activations, and you'll also see a flurry of activities on the walls of Wynwood as brands vie for a piece of the exposure pie by sponsoring a mural in the high-profile neighborhood.

However, if you are street savvy, you'll know some of the best murals in the Wynwood are not brand-sponsored ones but the walls where artists are given the creative freedom to express themselves. Because of the fleeting nature of street art, a piece can be there today and gone tomorrow. (The only area that bucks this trend is Goldman Properties' curated Wynwood Walls space.) So, if you want to check out New Times' picks for the best ten murals in Wynwood, don't wait — go check them out right now.

CP1, Monz, and BK Foxx's Wakefield Star Wars Wall (Miami, New York City)

Claudio Picasso (CP1) began his relationship with J Wakefield Brewery when it opened its doors in January 2015. He's painted all manner of iconic Star Wars and comic book-influenced murals throughout the property over the years, including inside the taproom and the front-facing wall of the brewery, and eventually taking over the east-facing wall of the neighboring building. His longtime friend and collaborator Monz has contributed a lot to the work there, and on the most recent iteration of the courtyard wall, the duo also received support from world-renowned muralist BK Foxx.

El Mac's A Love Supreme (Wynwood Saints) (Los Angeles)

This unmissable beast of a mural was one the earliest on the relatively recent wave of high rises in the neighborhood. Painted in 2019 by internationally renowned artist El Mac (Miles MacGregor), this work of art is one of the largest in the neighborhood. Visible on the north side of the Wynwood 25 building, the mural shows three figures: Mandolina, who helps run a nearby community garden, a young ballet dancer named Jamaii, and a local Seminole boy named Kyle.

Freek, Kedz, Furious, Gwiz, and Knee's DAM Crew Hip-Hop 50th Anniversary (Miami)

On NW 23rd Street, just west of NW Fifth Avenue, the south side of the old RC Cola factory is adorned with a tribute to the four pillars of hip-hop culture: DJing, MCing/rapping, breaking, and graffiti. The mural was painted by a handful of staples from the DAM crew (Freek, Kedz, Furious, Gwiz, and Knee), who have been active in Miami since 1989. Overall, it's a clear example of real old-school graffiti work.

Giulio Rosk and Mr. Blob's Portrait of Golden and Chris (Italy)

In 2021, two artists from Italy, Giulio Rosk and Mr. Blob, connected with beloved local artist Golden. The two visitors started painting the wall outside Golden's studio, facing NW 29th Street on the corner of NW Sixth Avenue. Once they made some progress, Golden realized he had ended up as one of the main subjects, along with his partner Chris. Rosk painted the portraits, and Mr. Blob painted the mystical crab between them. The two worked entirely freehand on the mural and had to contend with pretty much all-day exposure to the sun because of the wall's location.

Hoxxoh and Deih's GoodTimes.GoodPeople (Miami, Spain)

This smaller mural can be found on the epicenter intersection of NW 24th Street and NW Second Ave, just across from the outdoor seating of Panther Coffee. It's a collaboration between local artist Hoxxoh (AKA Douglas Hoekzema) and Deih from Spain, who first met in 2023 while at a mural festival in Grenoble, France. After hitting it off overseas, Deih ended up in Miami a couple of months later for a solo show at the Wynwood Walls' Goldman Global Arts Gallery. The two made it a point to track down a wall they could paint together, and the result was a perfect synergy between their two distinct styles.

Ivan Roque and Chnk's New Heights (Miami)

In 2022, Wynwood Mural Festival asked local muralist Ivan Roque to tackle the wall in the parking lot on NW 24th Street just east of NW Fifth Avenue. Roque knew from long familiarity with the spot — he painted a small portion of it in 2013 as part of a Yo Miami-produced project — that the bottom portion always ended up bombed by graffiti writers. As a preemptive measure, he asked his longtime friend and respected graffiti writer Chnk to collaborate on the wall with him. The mural now stands as a model for synergy between the worlds of street art and graffiti, which often mistakenly get lumped together. The frigate bird and tulips were chosen for their symbolism linked to opportunity, marking a time in Roque's career when he started getting bigger projects. The vines represent the energy and time put into endeavors, with the thorns reminding us that there are always obstacles to overcome as well.

Kevin Ledo's Portrait of Nate Delinois (Canada)

Painted in 2019 at Eneida Hartner Elementary School on NW 29th Street as part of the RAW Project, artist Kevin Ledo's mural features a portrait of local artist Nate Dee (Delinois). The reference image was a photo taken by Juan QueixoI, and Ledo decided on this particular subject because of a desire to depict a local art hero for the kids at the school to look up to — literally and figuratively. It was also an early foray for him into a technique where he mimicked the oil pastel texture he had until then, which he only used on small-scale watercolor paintings on paper.

Krave's Wynwood Silos (Miami)

When an opportunity came up for Daniel Fila (AKA Krave) to do something on the silos of the Supermix Concrete plant in 2017, he drove over to scope it out, and the cylinders rising into the sky immediately appeared as spray cans in his mind. The perfect symbol for the graffiti mecca, the idea was cemented, and after three months of working on it, his vision was manifested. Using oil-based and aerosol paints, he went in with a concept but also freestyled some elements as he worked, like the smoky clouds of paint.

MSG Mashup (Miami)

The prolific MSG Crew is a fixture in local street art and graffiti communities and has a long and storied history. In 2015, the crew's members took charge of painting the entire north-facing wall of the old RC Cola factory on NW 24th Street between NW Fifth and Sixth avenues. Since then, they've redone it in various themes, with the current one being a nod to similarly styled collages featuring works by various crew members and associates. This allows each artist to shine while still creating a cohesive overall composition on the wall. Artists include: Quake, Atomik, Komik, Hiero, Miro, Brandon Opalka, Chnk, Luis Berros, Abstrk, Hoxxoh, Zoe, Eddie Rivera, Pucho, Artyek, Ripes, Vale, 5 Gallons, Arive, Mike Suarez, and Dos.

Trek 6's Everlasting Bass Boombox (Miami)

In March 2012, artist Trek 6 took over the now iconic spot on NW Sixth Avenue and NW 23rd Street with help from Chor Boogie. Sonni, the Argentine artist based out of New York City, originally painted the building to look like a boombox in 2010, but it got replaced by advertisements and tags in the two years that followed. Seeing it fall into disrepair, Trek felt a calling to bring back the boombox and has been stewarding it ever since. Over the past 12 years, Trek has collaborated with Chor and artist Ishmael on the I-95-facing front of the building and has showcased work from a myriad of artists on the sides and back of it. Trek and Ishmael painted the current iteration on the front, featuring work from RasTerms and Mec on the side.
