Art on a Boat

Feel like hobnobbing with blue-haired collectors and socialites while toasting with a flute of bubbly aboard a mega-yacht like a snazzy art world player? If so, then mosey over to Bayfront Park this weekend, where the good ship SeaFair docked at the Intercontinental Hotel (100 Chopin Plaza, Miami) hosts the Miami International Art Fair (MIA), now floating in its fourth edition. Running Friday through Monday, the boutique art fair offers visitors the chance to rub elbows with international dealers and artsy types in an intimate setting on the Magic City’s spectacular waterfront. Aboard SeaFair, you’ll discover three decks crammed with works from 30 international galleries based in locales as far away as Beijing, Buenos Aires, Moscow, Paris, London, and New York. If you can peel those peepers away from the breathtaking skyline, you might find yourself dazzled by the collection of works on display, ranging from painting, mixed media, photography, sculpture, digital, electronic, and performance art to works on paper and designer jewelry. MIA is also presenting “Sculpture Miami,” a waterside installation of soaring sculptures in Bayfront Park, and a special section of light works from Stephen Knapp, onboard SeaFair in advance of his solo exhibit at the Lowe Art Museum that opens at the end of January. MIA arrives just in time to offer a cure for those who suffered from status anxiety during December’s Art Basel bacchanalia.
