Independent Journalism in Miami Needs You
We need to raise $10,000 by August 9 to support the reporting our community depends on. Reader support keeps us independent and is playing a larger role in funding local journalism and shaping what comes next. If you believe independent local journalism matters, make a contribution today.
Last week, a great white shark was spotted off the coast of Key West.
Last night, a giant storm left much of Miami under water.
This morning, news broke that SyFy’s Twitter-famous TV movie Sharknado is getting a sequel. And it’s set in … New York? Really?

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sharknado 2 “will see flying sharks invade New York City and is slated to air on the cable network in 2014.”
Really, SyFy?
An entire nation of basketball fans is still butthurt about the Miami Heat winning its second straight championship. Rolling Stone thinks the whole city’s going to be under water in a couple years anyway. And damn near everyone in the country is so ashamed of the George Zimmerman verdict that they want to amputate the state of Florida from the United States entirely.
Right now, more people than ever before would love to see an army of sharks descend from the sky onto the waterlogged, gun-toting Miamians wearing LeBron James jerseys. And you’re going to set Sharknado in New York City? A place people actually seem to like?
Then again, Sharknado 2 doesn’t come out until 2014. Maybe by then Florida will have cleaned up its act and people won’t hate us so much AHAHAHA JUST KIDDING WE’RE ALL DESCENDING INTO A WATERY HELL.
Also a watery hell: a SHARKNADO.
Just saying.
