Dust off your chancletas, fuel up on cafecito, practice your domino skills, and break out your Flanigan’s jersey: It’s time to celebrate 305 Day in the M-I-A.
Becoming a tradition on March 5 in recent years, 305 Day is a local celebration of everything we love about Miami, from its music and food to its niche peculiarities. Most events include perks (coffee break at 3:05 p.m., anyone?), and even New Times is getting in on the action. Thursday evening, we’re hosting a chat about Miami vinyl history at Sweat Records with founder Lolo Reskin and music editor Flor Franceschetti. Enjoy a complimentary happy hour, light bites, and a DJ set, plus merch.
If you’re new around here, the 305 area code is the ultimate signifier of Miami pride. In 1947, all of Florida was given the area code, but as the state’s population grew, it needed more area codes. Miami-Dade County and the Florida Keys were given the highly sought-after 305 digits, and 786 just doesn’t hit the same.

Cotidiano – Mexican Bistro

Gramps Getaway

305 Day Festival

Ray’s Hometown Bar

Red Bull
The chancletas will fly in Hialeah on Saturday, but not because your mom’s throwing them at your head. Red Bull is hosting its inaugural Red Bull Chancleta Run at Hialeah Park Casino, part of the 305 Day Festival.
