Poor Matthew Broderick. Life’s been rough for the actor since his Ferris Bueller’s Day Off days. He never made another good movie. He’s gotten old and gray. The tabloids announced to the world that he cheated on wife Sarah Jessica Parker in 2008 and again in 2009. And through it all, he could never escape the shadow of his Ferris Bueller character. In fact, his most successful recent project was this year’s Honda Super Bowl commercial, in which he re-created scenes from the 1986 film that made him famous.
That ad was OK, but for most viewers, it only inspired a longing for the classic. Luckily, SoundScape Park (400 17th St., Miami Beach) will broadcast Ferris Bueller’s Day Off on the huge wall of the New World Center this Wednesday. Show up with your picnic gear, sing along to the soundtrack (“Ohhh, yeahhhhh”), and, whatever you do, don’t mention The Producers.
