Last month, Pictureplane (AKA Travis Egedy) left Denver, his home since 2003, for the big (um, bigger) city of New York. “I feel like it’s sort of been my second home the past few years — I go there so much,” Egedy told our sister paper Westword.
South Florida can relate. It has lost many musicians who have left to become part of national acts such as Sleigh Bells and Interpol. But the move for Egedy perhaps was in the cards as soon as he achieved critical breakthrough with 2009’s Dark Rift. The album mixed dark melodies with trance and pop to create a sound that was both polished and DIY. That aesthetic is also found in last year’s Thee Physical, which includes the highlight “Post Physical,” a danceable sonic lullaby and declaration. And after a few short weeks of living in New York, Pictureplane will trek south with Teenage Fantasy for a Thursday-night Living Room Session at Bardot (3456 N. Miami Ave., Miami).
