Did we wake up in the early ’70s? The nation is polarized by internal rage and fierce divisions, American troops are caught in a never-ending conflict overseas, another Nixon is running for office (yup, Tricky Dick’s grandson is making a bid in Connecticut), and James Taylor and Carole King are touring together.
Between the two musicians, they’ve penned enough sentimental standards to supply a year’s worth of wedding songs, classic rock radio hits, barroom ballads, and back-seat sing-alongs. The duo’s recently released Live at the Troubadour offers an appropriate teaser for their live shows. Recorded during their 2007 reunion at L.A.’s Sunset Strip, the album includes simpatico standards such as “Fire and Rain,” “It’s Too Late,” “You’ve Got a Friend,” and other tunes that’ll inevitably encourage aging boomers to nod and smile with appreciation. Taylor and King play the BankAtlantic Center this Saturday at 8 p.m. as part of their Troubadour Reunion tour.
