A name like Thugfucker is bound to raise a few eyebrows. It’s also a risky moniker for a musician, being so provocative that it could distract from the mission one sets out to accomplish — make music. Luckily, the duo that has assumed the name has the talent to push through it.
The odds that American Greg Oreck and Icelandic Holmar Filipsson would have met at some point to churn out deep-house and nu-disco beats seem slim, but dance music is better thanks to their collaboration. Their 2010 cut “Disco Gnome” on Life and Death proved they could make a polished club track that appealed to both steadfast EDM fans and the just-came-to-party. Friday’s set at Treehouse (323 23rd St., Miami Beach), courtesy of Miami collective Link, will have the duo sharing the bill with Lee Curtiss for a four-to-the-floor dance party that will please even the most discerning house-head. The thugfuckin’ starts at 10 p.m. at the only South Beach venue with a “downtown sensibility.”
