Thursday is the new Friday, and South Miami is the new South Beach. Okay, not quite, but every Thursday night a horde of young suburbanites squeezes into Sunset Tavern, turning it into something that resembles a scene from a popping club on Washington Avenue, sans the attitude and designer clothes. The beer is flowing, the bar is packed, and the crowd is as mixed as the cocktails they sip. Locals can thank the tavern’s weekly ladies’ night for all the eye candy and socializing. Patrons with two X chromosomes drink free from 10:00 to 11:00, but an hour is all you need to get the pre-party started. The DJ plays Top 40 hits and anything else that gets the crowd rowdy. Enjoy drinks indoors or outside on the patio, but don’t expect to escape cigarette fumes; smoking is allowed inside. Call 305-665-9996.
