The weekend is here and there’s plenty going on in the Magic City. This weekend our lovely city offers theater, music of nearly all kinds, and pirates. That’s right, pirates. So grab some mateys and get to it.

  • 12 Angry Men at South Miami-Dade Cultural Arts Center: A whole drama about jury duty.

  • Newsies at Adrienne Arsht Center: Inspired by the Newsboys Strike of 1899 and based on the 1992 film by the same name, Newsies the musical is making its way to Miami to sing us a tune or two.

  • Vivace at Aventura Arts and Culture Center: The group will perform opera-infused pop classics, original material, and a few Broadway tunes.
  • The Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra at Adrienne Arsht Center: Class up your Friday night. Go classical, go Russian.

  • Vik Muniz: Poetics of Perception at Lowe Art Museum: Muniz’s images re-create famous works of art. Claude Monet’s Haystacks is reimagined using Pantone color swatches. Muniz also used diamonds to re-create publicity shots of Hollywood’s legendary divas. These portraits, as well as Muniz’s take on Monet, appear in Lowe’s exhibition.
  • Harry Connick Jr. at Adrienne Arsht Center: The American Idol judge grins and charms at the Arsht Center.

  • Rasin’ Cane at South Miami-Dade Cultural Arts Center: Starring Jasmine Guy, this celebration of the Harlem Renaissance combines text, song, music, movement, and imagery.
  • Pirate Island at Miami Children’s Museum: Kids can attend Pirate Academy, where lessons include how to talk like Jack Sparrow, tie knots like Captain Hook, and find treasure like Long John Silver. And don’t forget the plank-walking, cannon-blasting, yo-ho-hos, shiver-me-timbers, and treasure maps.
