The First-Ever Barbie Dream Fest Is Coming to Fort Lauderdale

The most impressive part of the fest is the lineup of cultural luminaries attending the inaugural edition — most of them women.

Editor’s note: The three-day Barbie Dream Fest went viral over the weekend after failing to meet expectations, even drawing comparisons to Fyre Fest and Glasgow’s infamous Willy Wonka Chocolate Experience. The event organizer, Mischief Management, has announced it will issue refunds to all attendees.

Barbie is ditching Malibu’s pink skies for Fort Lauderdale’s turquoise waters. Mattel‘s first-ever Barbie Dream Fest, billed as the ultimate fan event for the world’s most famous doll, is rolling into South Florida this weekend — possibly in a hot-pink convertible.

The event, set to run from March 27 to 29 at the Broward County Convention Center, is bringing a star-studded lineup of famous women (including tennis legend Serena Williams and WNBA star Angel Reese, AKA Bayou Barbie) to celebrate all things Barbie. The event is the product of a joint venture between Mischief Management, a company specializing in fandom fests, and Mattel, the toy company that’s been producing Barbie dolls since the doll’s inception in 1959.

“Barbie Dream Fest promises an unforgettable journey through six decades of the brand’s legacy for fans of all ages,” Mischief and Mattel announced in a statement about the weekend-long event. They’re not kidding: Festival activations include an interactive dream house, glam bar, Barbie fashion show, “a beyond the stars cosmic celebration of astronaut Barbie,” an 80s/disco-themed roller rink, a presentation of Barbie The Movie: In Concert, photo-op installations, and more.
