Independent Journalism in Miami Needs You
We need to raise $10,000 by August 9 to support the reporting our community depends on. Reader support keeps us independent and is playing a larger role in funding local journalism and shaping what comes next. If you believe independent local journalism matters, make a contribution today.
Though rhinos might not be the cutest and cuddliest of mammals, they sure are majestic creatures. Unfortunately, some people prey on these thick-skinned beasts. But there are also folks who help conserve and protect beautiful wildlife. This Saturday, Zoo Miami and the South Florida Chapter of the American Association of Zoo Keepers will host Bowling for Rhinos at Bird Bowl (9275 Bird Rd., Miami).
Bowling for Rhinos raises funds for conservation projects that benefit the black, white, Javan, and Sumatran rhinos, as well as other endangered animals and plants. One hundred percent of the proceeds — including sales of “Keep the Rhinos Horny” T-shirts for $15 (the guys back at the frat house will love that one) — will go toward this conservation effort.
You and four or five of your friends can make up a team to bowl the night away. For a fee of $25, you get two hours of bowling, shoe rental, a raffle ticket, and pizza. And, of course, you are bowling for a great cause. Registration opens Friday at 7 p.m., and the event runs from 8 to 10. Call 305-251-0400, ext. 84921, or visit miamimetrozoo.com.
