Our doctor recently advised us that if we didn’t get more fresh air, we’d eventually turn into a gray polyester office chair. True story. But rather than huff and puff on a jog, we prefer to spend our alfresco time leisurely. However, in these crazy-bad economic times, we almost lost our chance to curl up and watch films on the cushy lawn of SoundScape Park. Thankfully, 305-ers Marilyn and Ed Gadinsky recently donated $36,000-plus to cover costs for technical staff and licensing fees for Miami Beach’s free outdoor movie series.
The third film in the eight-month series is Mel Brooks and Gene Wilder’s 1974 parody, Young Frankenstein. In this riff on Mary Shelley’s classic Gothic novel, Frankenstein is pronounced fronk-en-steen and Igor is eye-gore. In one scene, the doctor and the monster don top hats and tails for a rendition of “Puttin’ on the Ritz.” Get spooked by satire and give your lungs a break from all of that central air conditioning.
