Long before Dorothy realizes how much she misses Kansas, the story of Oz begins with an emerald-skinned girl’s struggle for acceptance in a cruel, cruel world. Based on the novel by Gregory Maguire, Tony-Award-winning Wicked chronicles the lives of the rejected Elphaba (the future Wicked Witch of the West) and the all-too-popular Glinda (the Good Witch). With a story that tugs at heartstrings as it reveals how these two unlikely roommates become the witches of Oz, the production displays a world beyond the façade of Emerald City where goodness and wickedness are born.
Wicked will be at the Arsht Center beginning this Wednesday and run through March 21. Act fast; the last time it played Miami in 2007, it broke box office records and sold out in record time.
