Independent Journalism in Miami Needs You
We need to raise $10,000 by August 9 to support the reporting our community depends on. Reader support keeps us independent and is playing a larger role in funding local journalism and shaping what comes next. If you believe independent local journalism matters, make a contribution today.
You’re wondering what to do this weekend. Your lady’s thinking, We should rent The Lake House and make apple-tinis. You’re thinking, We should drink beer and watch cars get crushed. When she suggests the absurd Sandra Bullock sapfest, you hold the line and remind her of last Saturday’s IKEA marathon. Nuff said. Now you’re on your way to Dolphin Stadium (2699 Dan Marino Blvd., Miami Gardens) for the Monster Jam World Tour, where you’ll see 1,500-horsepower, 10,000-pound monster trucks with names like Monster Mutt, Predator, Gun Slinger, Destroyer, and Eradicator compete in side-by-side racing and the fan-favorite freestyle competition, featuring cars, buses, boats, and generally destructive behavior. Hell yeah!
Dennis Anderson — icon in the field and creator of Monster Jam — will be on hand to pilot his equally iconic truck, Gravedigger. Anderson has a reputation for driving recklessly, so you can bet your warm Budweiser there’s gonna be plenty of crashing and smashing. Latin legend Lupe Sosa will maneuver his machine, El Toro Loco, among the metal monsters, trying to score one for south-of-the-border fans. The smashery begins at 7:30 p.m.
