Independent Journalism in Miami Needs You
We need to raise $10,000 by August 9 to support the reporting our community depends on. Reader support keeps us independent and is playing a larger role in funding local journalism and shaping what comes next. If you believe independent local journalism matters, make a contribution today.
Folk music certainly seems to be on the upswing again, with folks such as Bon Iver and the Fleet Foxes enjoying tons of press and popularity (at least as much as indie acts can get). Proof positive is the Avett Brothers‘ rapid rise during the past couple of years. Seth and Scott Avett have been playing together in their current band for nearly a decade, releasing CDs and touring modestly until their first appearance on the Conan O’Brien Show in 2007. Since then, they’ve been asked to open for Dave Matthews Band and Widespread Panic and have regularly sold out their own shows. To see this folk-punk-bluegrass-ragtime act in all of its high-energy glory, get your tickets.
