It’s no secret that South Florida has a distinct Caribbean vibe. And with the weather becoming a little less hot, now is a great time for Miamians to get outside and celebrate their culture, food, fashion, music, and dance at the 30th-annual Miami-Broward Carnival at the Miami-Dade County Fair Expo Center (10901 Coral Way, Miami) this Sunday.
Whether you’re going with family and friends or on a date, this all-day fest from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. will put you in a happy, irie mood. Imagine jerk, curry, and stew, as well as more than 50 vendors of authentic foods from Haiti, Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago, the Dominican Republic, and Guyana. The rum will run, and beers from various regional breweries will flow. More than 20 live bands, energizing steel drum music, and gorgeous costumes — some “king” and “queen” getups measure more than 15 feet wide by 20 feet tall — at themed dance competitions and a parade will create a true Carnival experience. The concert segment will feature powerhouse soca acts and current popular Caribbean artists. And booths will offer services, crafts, and other Caribbean products.
