Nearly everyone who’s rented an apartment in Miami knows that Magic City landlords can be a little shady. And unless you’re best friends with a lawyer willing to write threatening official letters on your behalf, you’re pretty much at your landlord’s mercy.
Until now. Seattle Solidarity, or SeaSol for short, has been standing up for tenants’ rights in the Pacific Northwest since 2008. The volunteer network is bringing the fight to South Florida this Thursday when it hosts a presentation at Sweat Records (5505 NE Second Ave., Miami). SeaSol’s successes in Seattle include fighting groundless evictions and convincing landlords to make long-overdue necessary repairs to restore utilities like running water. So yeah, it can probably help you get back that security deposit your former landlord’s withholding for no reason.
