Selena Gomez is making all kinds of news lately. First, she announced her recovery from Bieber Fever by splitting with America’s favorite Canadian. Then she celebrated her singlehood by slipping on a damned fine-looking golden dress and maybe getting kind of drunk at a Golden Globes after-party.
Then again, maybe she was just still in character from Spring Breakers. Gomez, along with Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson, and Rachel Korine, play bored college chicks who’ll do anything to go on spring break. They also really hate wearing clothing, we’re guessing, from the amount of screen time they spend wandering around St. Petersburg, Florida, in, well, not clothing.
The film won’t be released until March 29, but the trailer hit the web today. It’s a festival of young flesh and pervy dudes poised to take advantage of it. But Village Voice reviewer Melissa Anderson, who saw the film when it screened at the Toronto Film Festival in September, said despite the obvious molester-bait, the film is “impossible to write off as ‘just’ a goof, ‘just’ the result of an art filmmaker exploiting stars to skewer the culture they represent, ‘just’ anything.”
Watch the trailer below and judge for yourself.
