Old Blue Eyes is back on the big screen in Miami Beach. When the sun sets today, head over to the Art Deco Welcome Center Auditorium for a free screening of the classic A Hole in the Head, directed by Frank Capra and starring Frank Sinatra. It’s the first of six movies in a new, two-part film series titled Made in Miami Beach, which showcases films shot here in 1959 or later that capture the beauty of Art Deco design. Hole stars Sinatra as Tony Manetta, a womanizing gambler who runs a Miami Beach hotel, the Garden of Eden. (the real-life spot: the Cardozo). “We see great shots of the Fontainebleau Hotel, the [Hialeah Park Racetrack], and elegant Miami hotels,” says Scott Timm, director of programs and outreach for the Miami Design Preservation League, which is presenting the series. Upcoming films in the series include The Bellboy, Miami Rhapsody, The Birdcage, Radio Inside, and every rapper’s favorite movie, Scarface.
