When local artist Typoe was 7 years old, a second-grade teacher asked him: If he could be perfect at one thing, what would it be? He quickly responded, “I would be perfect at graffiti because I would have mad skills and write everywhere.”
The local tagmeister’s second solo show, “Bang Bang,” at Spinello Gallery centers on such youthful desires. After finding one of his old elementary school journals, he was inspired to create this multimedia ode to street culture. There’s a series of die-cut paper silhouettes with Typoe’s mug and a skeleton vomiting rainbow-hued spray-can nozzles to form a sculpture on a wall. “These works represent me and the life I live,” he says. “They are both the good and the bad. It is who I am. I can’t change.”
Wednesdays-Saturdays. Starts: Sept. 11. Continues through Oct. 8, 2010
