Reader support matters more than ever

We're in the final stretch of our summer campaign. Our goal is to raise $10,000 by August 9 to support the journalism our community relies on. Reader support is helping shape the future of local news.

$10,000

If you’ve never taken a trip to Palmetto Bay, you should make it a point to hit up the sprawling greens of Deering Estate at Cutler for the Labor Day Blues Picnic. Coming at the tail-end of three months of steamy heat, the federal holiday marks the time of year when sweat and mosquitoes finally begin to fade away. So this Sunday at 10 a.m. at the estate, celebrate the end of the summer. Roam around one of Miami-Dade County’s most historic and beautiful bayfront sites, sip an ice-cold brew with your homies, and pig out on barbecue while the Blackstar Blues Band gets down and dirty. Tip: Bring a blanket, a bib, and some wet naps.

Sun., Sept. 5, 10 a.m., 2010
