Oscars Fashion: Let the Speculation Begin

For the fashion-minded, today kicks off perhaps the most blissful week of the year. New York Fashion Week is over, having filled our minds with trends and styles of all sorts. And the next big fashion event is right around the corner: The Oscars.

Sure, it’s technically Hollywood’s biggest night. But the clothing actors wear to the awards ceremony is under just as much scrutiny as their performances on the big screen. And as we saw the looks from New York’s runways this year, we couldn’t help but wonder whether we’d be seeing any of them again as we watched the show next weekend.

Here’s how we’d style this year’s nominees in our favorite red carpet-ready looks from Fashion Week.

​Berenice Bejo
We spent a long time in a dark theater watching Bejo be adorable and peppy during The Artist. If she shows up at the Oscars in a 1920s-inspired gown, we’ll die of boredom. How about this flowy, bohemian look from Marchesa instead?

​Kirsten Dunst
She’s not up for any awards, despite her critically acclaimed performance in Melancholia. So she might as well steal the show in this floofy, faux-revealing Marchesa number.

​Rooney Mara
Do you think Mara’s planning to step outside her dark, freaky fashion comfort zone? Yeah, neither did we.

Meryl Streep
We are so bored with Hollywood’s more, um, mature stars wearing black to awards shows. You’re a legend, Streep. Dress like it.

Remember last year’s Oscars, when nobody knew who Jennifer Lawrence was? Then she showed up on the red carpet in a smokin’ sexy dress, and all of a sudden she’s starring in The Hunger Games. Take note, Chastain.
