Tired of the Miami hustle and bustle? Get caught up in the drama of the New York streets with Guys and Dolls, performed through January 8 at the Byron Carlyle Theater. In a pantomime of never-ceasing activities, New Yorkers, tourists, gamblers, crooks, cops, drunks, and streetwalkers go about their business. Amid it all, Nathan Detroit, the organizer of the city’s oldest permanent floating craps game, bets Sky Masterson that he can’t make the next girl he sees fall in love with him. Featuring “Guys and Dolls,” “Luck Be a Lady Tonight,” and “Sit Down, You’re Rocking the Boat,” this musical is an American classic that’s won several Tony Awards. Cheesy? Perhaps. But hey, it’s the holidays — corny musical numbers are what the season is all about.
Fridays, Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Wednesdays, Saturdays, Sundays, 2 p.m. Starts: Dec. 23. Continues through Jan. 8, 2011
