MON 3/21
Sonically inspired by the layered, multitonal singing of African pygmies and yearning to push the soprano saxophone to its limits, reed-master François Louis created a new woodwind instrument. His aulochrome looks like the mutant child of a clarinet and a saxophone. Through the inventor’s innovation, the keys of both pipes can be played either separately or simultaneously. There is currently only one aulochrome in existence, and tonight’s performance will mark the American debut of this double soprano saxophone. Hear its sweet polyphonic and chromatic sounds at 7:30 p.m. at the University of Miami’s Henry Fillmore Hall, 5501 San Amaro Dr., Coral Gables. Call 305-284-5813, and learn more about François Louis’s unique instrument at www.aulochrome.com. –Patrice Elizabeth Grell Yursik
