Independent Journalism in Miami Needs You
We need to raise $10,000 by August 9 to support the reporting our community depends on. Reader support keeps us independent and is playing a larger role in funding local journalism and shaping what comes next. If you believe independent local journalism matters, make a contribution today.
Generally speaking, there’s nothing chic about a bowling alley, where unsightly shoes combine with cheap beer, bad pizza, and ball grease to make for a mostly uncomfortable ambiance. But the lanes at Lucky Strike (1691 Michigan Ave., Miami Beach) are an exception: They’re unimpeachably chic, what with their gourmet sliders and the clippings from People magazine posted above the urinals, which depict Jennifer Aniston and other Hollywood celebs bowling at Lucky Strike’s L.A. branch. The interior is clean, spacious, and futuristic — like a Jetson family hangout — and the mini mahi-tuna burgers are to bowl for.
Lucky Strike’s lanes are home to the Gay Bowling League. Now in its second season, the league is meeting for a ten-week period beginning this Thursday. There will be 40 teams of four people. To join, players must prepay a weekly fee of $19, which covers two games a week and rent for those devilish shoes. It costs $190 total. To organize your own team and get more info, call 305-532-0307 or visit sobesocialclub.com/gaybowlingleague.html.
