Americans are from one of two camps: the “NASCAR is for rednecks and women who use too much cheap hairspray” camp, or the “Screw you, Yankee — NASCAR is the cat’s meow” camp (though we suspect no self-respecting race fan would ever utter the phrase “cat’s meow”). Either way, the collective eye of fans of the most popular American pastime will focus on the place that the eye of Hurricane Andrew ravaged in 1992. Homestead Miami Speedway, one of racing’s most hallowed tracks, will once again decide the champion of racing’s Super Bowl: the NASCAR Sprint Cup.
In the season’s final race, two-time champion Jimmie Johnson will attempt to hold off the surging Carl Edwards, whose win streak has put Johnson’s would-be record three-peat in jeopardy. The 1.5-mile oval will also see champs crowned in the NASCAR Nationwide and NASCAR Craftsman Truck series this weekend. Rubber hits the road at Miami Homestead Speedway this Friday through Sunday. Group ticket packages for three days of four-wheeled action range from $135 to $195. Friday’s event costs $35 for admission.
