The pursuit of the majestic billfish is probably best known to most of us landlubbers as the subject of one of the true American literary masterpieces — and probably your seventh grade book report — Ernest Hemingway’s Old Man and the Sea. So it’s fitting that the Miami Billfish Tournament rolls into town this week with a kickoff party featuring two of that great author’s favorite pastimes: drinking rum, and capturing large sea creatures in the most spectacular fashion possible.
The final registration kickoff party gets it all started tonight at the Dockside Miami Beach Marina from 6:00 to 10:00. In addition to Bacardi cocktails, there will be live music, sponsor booths, and appetizers from Carrabba’s Italian Grill. The dockside party continues all weekend with more of the same, as well as door prizes, Hooter’s Day on Saturday (great for the grandkids!), and daily weigh-ins — for the fish, not the revelers.
Thu., March 29, 6-10 p.m.
