If you happen to be a 20-something punk whose experience of ’80s hardcore is wholly derived from digitized back issues of Slash and a bootleg DVD of Penelope Spheeris’s seminal doc The Decline of Western Civilization, this Friday’s Pogo! party at Churchill’s Pub is probably the closest you’ll ever come to making mosh love to Henry Rollins, Ian MacKaye, Glenn Danzig, and the rest.
Kicking off at 8 p.m., local crews Unit Six, Hardware Youth, Routine Scheme, Knock ’Em Dead, and Trust No One will cover their favorite 60-second songs by punk legends such as Black Flag, Minor Threat, Agnostic Front, the Misfits, and DOA. Plus if you’re tough enough, you could even take your amateur ass onstage for a karaoke take on the Circle Jerks’ “Group Sex.” Now go get ready. It’s almost time for some simulated hardcore.
