There’s a bit of old dogfighting wisdom that says the best battles happen when a trainer pits the tiniest pups from two related litters against one another. But because the fighting of dogs is a disgusting, immoral endeavor and the fighting of men is not, why don’t we see what this approach yields when applied to the game of professional boxing? The answer is William “Chirizo” González vs. Jesús “Taquero” Vázquez.
Now, these two men aren’t exactly tiny and they’re not cousins. But they both weigh less than 118 pounds and they both speak Spanish, so the formula is still valid. Be there this Saturday at 8 p.m. when González and Vázquez meet in the main event of Boxeo Telemundo at Miccosukee Resort & Gaming (500 Krome Ave., Miami). Report back if it’s not the best battle among the six others happening that night.
