Independent Journalism in Miami Needs You
We need to raise $10,000 by August 9 to support the reporting our community depends on. Reader support keeps us independent and is playing a larger role in funding local journalism and shaping what comes next. If you believe independent local journalism matters, make a contribution today.
Kandi Burruss is known, of course, for her time on The Real Housewives of Atlanta. But true fans of Burruss know she’s also an R&B legend. Burruss started in the business as a teen with the multiplatinum girl group Xscape and went on to write songs for many of R&B’s biggest names. Now, she is not only one of America’s favorite housewives as well as an accomplished songwriter but she’s also now a theatrical producer.
Burruss’ new musical, A Mother’s Love, will come to Miami this Wednesday. Loosely based on her life, the musical features 18 songs Burruss wrote herself. Some moments in the musical are based on her rocky relationship with her mother, known to all of us as Mama Joyce. If you’ve watched Burruss and her mother on TV, then you know how Mama Joyce has never taken a shine to Burruss’ husband, Todd Tucker.
A Mother’s Love kicks off Thursday at the James L. Knight Center (400 SE Second Ave., Miami) at 8 p.m. and runs through September 27. Tickets cost $56.25 to $67.45. Visit kandionline.com or ticketmaster.com.
Thu., Sept. 25, 8 p.m.; Fri., Sept. 26, 8 p.m.; Sat., Sept. 27, 3 & 8 p.m., 2014
