Just when you thought you knew every inch of Miami, a new event space opens. The Simigo Gallery and Workspace is the creation of two artists: photographer Jayme Gershen and painter Rosaura Perez. The duo has already enticed international artists for residencies and performances. This weekend, they will host Luis Maurette, an Argentine-born composer, multimedia artist, and half of an electronic folk group. On Friday, Maurette’s latest creation, Transfolklorico, will screen at 7 p.m. Basically a 40-minute music video, the film examines South American indigenous cultures that continue to make folk music in an age of globalization and technology.

Fri., June 18, 7 p.m., 2010
