Once you are out of school, it is difficult to make new friends. Sure, you have your work friends, but when you hang out with them, you just end up complaining about your nagging boss. Maybe it’s time to take your mother’s advice: Get out there and do something. There are plenty of “young professional” groups for you to join in support of local arts and museums, including the Tropees, the Tropical Pioneers of the Historical Museum of Southern Florida. Tonight they will be dishing over shellfish during the Joe’s Stone Crab Beach Party at the 1913 Miami Beach landmark.
“It’s a little bit different than other groups because we always pick someplace historic – like Joe’s – and we also include a little history at our events,” says Stephanie Brod, development officer for the museum. Don’t be a crab; eat some from 6:30 to 9:00. Admission is $15 for members, $20 for nonmembers. The cost of becoming a Tropee is $35, or $50 for a family. Call 305-375-1614 or e-mail s.brod@hmsf.org to RSVP. Visit www.hmsf.org/membership-tropees.htm for more info.
