Well, except in Miami. Something about the stiff construction and thick materials that Betty Draper and company sported in midcentury New York just didn’t make sense in 21st-century Miami. So we stuck to our flowing fabrics and loud, colorful prints while the rest of the country prowled their way through a sea of tailored skirt-suits to the perfect pair of cat-eye sunglasses.
Now, however, Miami has its own version of Mad Men, the new Starz series Magic City, and it comes with fashions no less fabulous — but cut and constructed with tropics dwellers in mind. So now is the perfect time to raid legendary consignment shop C. Madeleine’s (13702 Biscayne Blvd., North Miami Beach) during its Annual Vintage Clearance Yard Sale. The shop is clearing out thousands of clothing items, accessories, and shoes at discounts from 50 to 95 percent. But you better get there early: The sale lasts only from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, and you know the good stuff will be gone well before it’s over.
