Most boxing events focus on the athletes stepping into the ring. But most boxing events aren’t produced by one of the most famous names in the sport. Sprawled across the front page of the website of Iron Mike Productions are far more photos of the much-maligned former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson than of the competitors in the company’s Judgment Day at AmericanAirlines Arena (601 Biscayne Blvd., Miami) this Thursday. And hey, can you blame them? The Iron Mike Tyson image is far more buzz-worthy than any bouts between lesser-known boxers.
That isn’t to say Judgment Day isn’t an exciting card; it’s topped by the IBF Super Featherweight World Championship, which is the rematch between Argenis “La Tormenta” Mendez and Rances “Kid Blast” Barthelemy. Undercards include a match between Cuban light heavyweight Humberto Savigne and up-and-coming 18-year-old Erickson Lubin. Interestingly, Iron Mike has also brought some musical acts to the event, including French Montana, Gente de Zona, and guest DJ Jammin’ Johnny.
