Bagel lovers, rejoice! Mitch’s Downtown is continuing its expansion across South Florida with two new locations in Coral Springs and, for the first time, Miami-Dade, with a spot in Coral Gables.

Mitch’s Coral Springs outpost will be a homecoming of sorts, with the original Mitch’s Westside Bagels opening a spot there in 2002. Meanwhile, the deli’s expansion into Miami-Dade is long overdue. Founders and father-and-son team Mitch and Adam Shidlofsky had always hoped to expand further south.

“Every year, we try to push the envelope on what our customers can experience, and 2026 will be our best yet,” says Adam in a statement. “We’re excited to debut a completely new store design, open locations that expand and bookend our South Florida footprint, and bring the Mitch’s Downtown experience to even more neighborhoods.”

What to Expect at the Gables and Coral Springs Locations

Both locations will feature a refreshed brand identity, blending classic New York deli vibes with warm, tropical South Florida hues. Eventually, the existing locations in Fort Lauderdale, Hallandale Beach, and Weston will be refreshed with the new design.

In addition to a new look, Mitch’s will introduce new menu items, although no word has yet been given on what they will be.

A Father and Son Duo With Three Decades of Experience

Mitch’s Downtown began over 30 years ago as Mitch’s Westside Bagels, when Mitch, a native of Long Island, New York, sought to bring the kind of delis that are commonplace in his hometown. It expanded to six locations across South Florida before scaling back, with the Weston outpost remaining the sole original location.

In 2020, Adam joined the family business and helped revitalize the brand, which was renamed Mitch’s Downtown. The brand opened a flagship location in Fort Lauderdale’s Flagler Village in 2021. In 2024, a third location opened in Hallendale Beach’s Atlantic Village.

Naturally, Mitch’s prides itself on its bagel selection, with 14 varieties, including sesame, everything, bialy, pumpernickel, and rainbow. There’s also avocado toasts, nova sandwiches, and breakfast sandwiches on the menu. There’s also a lunch menu of pastrami on rye, egg salad sandwiches, and specialty sandwiches like “The Jewban” (pulled brisket, ham, Swiss, pickles, and mustard on pressed rye bread).

The deli has amassed numerous accolades over the years, with New Times naming it the best bagel in Broward in 2023. This summer, Mitch’s landed on Yelp’s Top 50 Bagel Spots in the U.S. and Canada list for 2025.
