Gemeny Hernandez, the longtime partner of Emily Estefan, daughter of music legends Gloria and Emilio Estefan, has been arrested on charges of felony strong-arm robbery and misdemeanor battery.

According to an arrest affidavit obtained by TMZ, the victim is identified as Hernandez’s domestic partner of eight years, although the name has been redacted. Law enforcement officials say the incident occurred during an argument in which Hernandez allegedly struck the victim in the head with a phone, leading to a struggle over the device. During the altercation, the two reportedly wrestled on the ground before the alleged victim, who sustained bruising around the eye and scratches on the neck, regained possession of the phone and called 911. Officers arrived shortly thereafter and placed Hernandez under arrest.

Although the authorities didn’t release the victim’s identity originally, all signs pointed to Emily Estefan, who appeared in bond court in defense of her girlfriend yesterday. In a video of the virtual court appearance obtained by NBC 6 South Florida, Estefan said she didn’t think Hernandez should be in jail. “No, I didn’t want her to be in jail. I begged the detective and the officers not to take her there,” Estefan said to the judge. “Whenever they come for [a] domestic case, somebody’s getting arrested,” the judge responded.

“I don’t want to put any kind of restraining order,” Estefan continued. “I’m very cool with her family. I just want her, honestly, I think it’s best for the both of us if we do take some space. But she doesn’t deserve to be there in jail.”

The judge set Hernandez’s bond at $3,000.

The couple has been together since 2016. They made their relationship public the following year and have often shared their partnership with fans through social media and interviews. The two also co-hosted the podcast “In Our Own World,” where they discussed identity, music, and mental health, often drawing from their experiences as queer women in the Latin community.

Emily has spoken openly about identity, family, and self-acceptance. Her relationship with Gemeny marked one of the first times she discussed her sexuality publicly. Both she and her mother have reflected on that experience in interviews, touching on the challenges of coming out within the Latin community and the importance of visibility. Over the years, Emily has positioned herself as an advocate for individuality and authenticity, values that resonate deeply in her music and public persona.
