In an act of sheer and utter genius, People For The Ethical Treatment of Animals’ President Ingrid Newkirk wants to turn O.J. Simson’s soon-to-be-foreclosed Miami house into a Meat is Murder museum.
We called PETA’s headquarters and spoke with Ashley Byne, Manager of Campaigns, who confirmed that yes, indeed, Newkirk sent a letter to James Dimon, Chair and CEO of JP Morgan Chase, requesting that the banker, “donate or sell us for a nominal sum O.J. Simpson’s Miami house once the foreclosure process is complete so that we may turn it into a “Meat Is Murder” Museum”.
In the letter, Newkirk states the family-friendly museum “will contain
exhibits that give visitors a sense of the terror that animals used for
food experience”.
Short Order asked Byne why PETA thought that a
Miami suburb would be a good place for a museum. She said the reasoning
was that people would probably have a “morbid curiosity” about O.J.’s
house and that the museum would serve as a reminder that “non-violence
can begin at breakfast”.
Speaking of breakfast, if the museum
were to happen, PETA would provide delicious vegan treats to all
attendees. “We would serve visitors free samples of delicious “riblets”
(made from healthy plant protein), veggie burgers, and faux chicken as
well as other meat-free fare, and every visitor 12 years old or younger
would receive a T-shirt reading, “Animals Are Friends, Not Food.”
Sounds like fun. By the way, Byne did mention that JP Morgan Chase has not yet responded to the offer.
