A four-month-old baby boy was on life support at Jackson Memorial Hospital this morning while his father appeared in court on charges of putting him there. Yosi Mahlab, 30 of North Miami, stands accused of beating his own son on January 21. The child lost brain activity as a result of the attack.
Mahleb called 911 himself after the incident according to CBS Miami. He admitted to police that he slapped the child twice, and then dropped the child on the back end of a nightstand.
The child suffered a skull fracture and brain damage so severe that it has left him brain dead.
Mahleb was arrested on a count of aggravated child abuse, but those charges are likely to be upgraded if his son does not survive.
A judge this morning set Mahleb’s bail at $200,000. If he manages to post bail he’ll be placed under house arrest.
