Ocean Drive. 8th street. 3 a.m. Need hamburger, fries, cold drink, stat. Your old standby may be News Cafe, but not today suckafish, or tomorrow, or August 19th for that matter.
The iconic South Beach restaurant is seeing a renovation to its property that includes a new interior for the restaurant and oceanfront balcony additions to the 3 story building at 800 Ocean Drive that houses News Cafe. All is supposed to be done by October. Building codes and fire inspections being what they are on South Beach, we’ll see if that deadline was realistic come October.
The restaurant is still open in the courtyard next door at 804 Ocean Drive, but be forewarned at least today through the 19th not in a 24 hour capacity.
