Artlurker is reporting that Galerie Emmanuel Perrotin’s Miami digs will be closing, kinda. There will still be some staff at the gallery throughout the year, but after the current exhibit closes, Perrotin won’t have another one open to the public until Art Basel 2009. Its Parisian counterpart will apparently remain unaffected. Check Lurker for more details.

This is the latest in a string of high-profile galleries closing their doors. Perrotin deals with locally based such as Hernan Bas and Daniel Arsham, but mainly represents internationally renowned artists such as Takashi Murakami, Aya Takano, and Duane Hanson, and recently presented a special exhibit by Kaws that was curated by Pharrell Williams. This SpongeBob-inspired piece might as well sum up our feeling about the news.

Let’s hope no one starts a twitter feed called “Wynwood Is Dying” anytime soon.
