So a man crashed his pickup truck into a Waffle House after trying to run over his wife. Of course, it happened in Florida. And, of course, it happened in Panama City Beach, the crown jewel of the Redneck Riviera. PCB, baby!
Charles Patrick O’Bryan was for some reason angry with his wife, a waitress at a local Waffle House. That ire drove him to crash his 1987 Ford pickup through the restaurant’s wall at 6:15 p.m. yesterday. He managed to strike his wife with the vehicle, and she was sent to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Before driving to the Waffle House, O’Bryan phoned the restaurant, but his wife wouldn’t take the call. He told the employee on the line that he was fixing “to run his truck through the building and kill everyone,” according Panama City’s News Herald.
After the crash, O’Bryan got out of the truck and brandished a knife. A bystander used a piece of the crumbled Waffle House to subdue him.
Luckily, no one else was injured — physically, at least. The mental distress on the local community caused by the temporary loss of the beloved Waffle House, perhaps PCB’s finest restaurant, could be incalculable.
O’Bryan was arrested and charged with attempted murder and felony criminal mischief.
