The Boys & Girls Club of Miami-Dade will cut the ribbon today on a revamped $2 million South Beach location in Flamingo Park. Miami Beach City Manager Jimmy Morales will be onsite to unveil the building.
At its new South Beach spot, the organization that serves the community’s youth expects to see 450 children from the area shuffle through the doors.
In 2011, after functioning for 27 years, the 2,500-sq.-ft. Club was demolished when plans to build a bigger 11,000-sq.-ft. building was approved. Five year later, developers are ready to open the new state-of-the-art facility. According to the release, “The new Club features a game room, cafeteria with teaching kitchen for the culinary program; community room/homework room/literacy room made possible by a grant from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation; arts and crafts room; technology room; teen center; offices and reception area; and much more.”
Members of the Boys and Girls Club are provided with opportunities to enhance their quality of life; such as after school programs that help kids with homework, and various sports leagues to foster that sense of camaraderie. This summer, the South Beach Club will begin to offer the usual summer program. Included in the sports lineup are baseball, intramural flag football, and intramural soccer.
