Ah, wintertime. It’s the season of giving, the season of joy — unless you’re a film buff, in which case it’s the season of bemoaning awards snubs and studying up for your Oscars picks. The Academy Awards aren’t until Feb. 26, of course, but you’ve still gotta know about film’s lesser-known awards if you want to win your office pool. Take the Critics’ Choice Awards, for example. The nominees were announced just this morning, and have already inspired a slew of condemnations.
Emma Stone, for instance, was snubbed for her leading role in The Help, despite the nominations of her co-stars Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer and Jessica Chastain. The ladies of Bridesmaids snuck
into the Best Acting Ensemble category, pissing off film snobs more in
favor of dramas like The Ides of March and The Artist. And then there’s
the Best Director category, containing obvious choices like Scorcese and
Spielberg — but not a single woman.
So what’s the most glaring omission in this latest Hollywood hot list? And do you even care?
