Happy Halloween! And — more to the point for cycling enthusiasts and anyone trying to get around tonight — happy last Friday of the month! It’s time for Critical Mass.
Tonight’s costumed group ride will head to Miami-Dade’s southwest and back, for a total of approximately 13 miles. Rush-hour drivers from downtown to Little Havana and Coral Gables should be on the lookout.
The ride will begin, as always, downtown at Government Center. It will then head immediately west on Flagler Street, across the Miami River, and continue through Little Havana, jogging south again at SW 22nd Avenue to SW Eighth Street. Cyclists will continue even farther west, past the Woodlawn Park Cemetery, before turning south at Ponce de Leon Boulevard.
The ride will then head through Coral Gables: down Ponce de Leon, then back east along Coral Way, before jogging north at SW 22nd and zigzagging through Little Havana north to Overtown and back around to downtown.
Will you step up to support New Times this year?
At New Times, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $17,800 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $30,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of New Times, now’s the time to give back.
It’s a windy, zigzaggy route, and it’s also the event’s Costume Ride. So if you’re not riding tonight, keep your eye out for a horde of witches and sexy Donald Trumps — or, you know, whatever — on bicycles.
Here’s a full map of tonight’s ride. As usual, the group will meet at 6:30 and pedal out at 7:15.
