A large white tube mysteriously washed up on a stretch of Miami Beach sands this morning and caused officials to order beach goers to evacuate. WSVN reports that the U.S. Navy is now investigating. Updated: It’s totally a U.S. Navy training mine.
There’s no word yet on what exactly the tube could be or how it got there. It was spotted this morning by a man walking the beach. The witness called police, and both the U.S. Navy and Coast Guard were called it. An original suspicion that it was some sort of navigating device has since been ruled out.
Beach goers in the area were asked to evacuate.
“They just told us to leave the beach,”one witness told WSVN. “There was something on the shore … and [police] told us, ‘Please, leave the beach.'”

Update: The tube is actually a U.S. Navy training mine. Which means it’s actually live but is less explosive than regular mines. The Navy is currently removing the six-foot long explosive device.
