Last week, O’Grime – the fresh faces at the front of Miami’s #Swag hip-hop contingency – dropped their new single, “Valanciunas (Big V Lithuanian Hero),” a tribute to Lithuanian sports star and Toronto Raptors draft pick Jonas Valanciunas.
As the track details, the South Florida rap wrecking crew admire the rising Eastern European basketball hero not only for being “young, fresh, and fly” but additionally for his “stacks” (of money) and “gold medals” from keeping it #Swag on the internationally competitive level.
Well, it seems as though Lituania appreciates O’Grime’s appreciation, as they’ve started playing the song at pro basketball games!
There’s this #Swag 12-second clip on Facebook, capturing the moment when O’Grime’s “Valunciunas” gets dropped during halftime at Euro Basket 2011’s Lithuania-Turkey game.
And then there’s another longer vid on YouTube catching “Big V Lithuanian Hero” getting more major play at Panevezys’s Cido Arena. You can really start to hear the song around the 20-second mark.
This border- and boundary-defying development may be one of the most exciting leaps forward for #Swag since Lil B discovered MySpace. Has any of the celebrities Based God has shouted out – we’re specifically interested in Ellen DeGeneres – responded to the songs named after them? Has anyone ever #Swagged over a professional athlete? Well, besides these grimey guys and Metro Zu on “Udonis Haslem (I’m So Handsome)”?
