Johnny Sketch and the Dirty Notes Play Alligator Alley Tonight for $10

The funky rock quintet Johnny Sketch and the Dirty Notes has been making its way south through Florida this week, and tonight will stop at Alligator Alley to deliver its gut-rockin’, brass-poppin’, blast of funk in the tradition of its hometown, New Orleans. Formed in 2001, all the bandmates met at Loyola University New Orleans, and most of them graduated with degrees in music. (Andre Bohren, drummer and backing vocals, dropped out after being approached by Johnny Sketch to join the band)

The band has been a staple of the New Orleans Jazz Fest, playing four out of the last five years. And its albums, though mostly composed of badass brass and down-home funk, have included heavy metal spoofs along the lines of Tenacious D. It’s also very appropriate that they’re playing Alligator Alley, considering AA owner Kilmo is an appreciator of all things New Orleans. So grub on the gumbo or a po’ boy found on the venue’s menu. You’ll need the energy for the non-stop dance party. Show time is at 9 p.m. Admission costs $10.
